Meet the Ambassadors

The United Nations General Assembly has declared the year 2022 as the International Year of Sustainable Mountain Development (IYM 2022). The Resolution was endorsed by 94 UN member countries including Nepal. The United Nations has urged global stakeholders to raise the imminent mountain-related issues and celebrate the year 2022 for sustainable mountain development. Governments, the private sector, civil society, and the media are requested to take part in the year 2022.

Being aligned with this declaration, Nepal is leading to celebrate the International Year of Sustainable Mountain Development 2022. The Ministry of Forests and Environment, Government of Nepal has been organising a series of events, in collaboration with the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), United Nations Development Program (UNDP), International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD), International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), Dan Church Aid (DCA) and Karnali Integrated Rural Development and Research Centre (KIRDARC) Nepal.

As a part of celebrating IYM2022 in Nepal, the Ministry of Forests and Environment on behalf of the Government of Nepal has been organising a series of events in collaboration with different partner organizations. Followed by the inauguration of the year-long program by Rt. Honourable Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba on March 23 and the ‘Meet the Members of Parliament graced by Rt. Honourable Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota on July 22, its third major episode was organised as ‘Meet the Ambassadors‘ on September 2, 2022, in Kathmandu. This is a consultative meeting, particularly with resident Ambassadors to Nepal, in which resident representatives of UN Agencies and Development Partners in Kathmandu were also invited.

Objectives

The following are the major objectives of this consultative meeting:-:

  1. To communicate Nepal’s year-long plan/roadmap of the IYM2022 programs to the participating Ambassadors.
  2. To disseminate the issues and agenda of sustainable mountain development that Nepal has been raising in international fora and introduce the Mustang Summit.
  3. To receive comments from the invitees and participating Ambassadors on Nepal’s initiative and synthesize the feedback on the mountain agenda that needs to be raised in the international arena.
